So, one of your goals this year is to run a marathon? This is quite a task and it will take more than keeping in shape and watching what you eat if you are serious about achieving it. To train effectively for this goal, you must have a well thought out and coherent plan that will bring you gradually to the right fitness levels. This holds true for all fitness level you are at. So how do you go about training for a marathon?

Well the best advice for doing this is to break your training down into different phases. What each phase entails, and how much time you spend on each phase depends heavily on your current fitness level. It will also depend on how much time you have to prepare yourself. Obviously if have a year to prepare yourself, your training regime will be different than if you only have two months.

What most professional marathon runners advise, is that regardless of your fitness level, you will want to break your training into various phases. One aspect of each phase will be that you will want to bring your running ability up to the twenty six mile length of a marathon. This will usually be more of an issue for beginners than for more seasoned runners. However, it is a major issue for beginning runners as many people can hardly run one mile, never mind twenty six of them right after each other!

A good example would be if you had twenty six weeks to prepare. Then you could aim to go for a long run once a week, which would gradually increase, perhaps by a mile each week, until the end when you could run at least twenty miles. This would not be the only aspect of your training, but it would be one way of ensuring that you had the stamina and energy to run the entire length of a marathon.

As well as worrying about the length of you running capability, you have to make sure that you are running every day. Of course, you will take rest days, and you may even rotate your training so that you are only running say five days a week. The other two days you should be exercising your upper body. However, the important point to remember is that you should have a regime and stick to it.

Does P90X Work? That is one of the most annoying questions that I see consistently online.

The question isn't if the program works, it's really... are you willing to make a commitment to work out for 90 days and follow the P90X diet plan. If you or anyone else is willing to "pay the price" then getting results is just basic math.

What do I mean by "basic math?" Gaining muscle size and losing body fat is a matter of exercising correctly and following a low-calorie diet. Many people will tell you that you cannot lose weight and build muscle size at the same time.

However, that is both true and not true.

Many people will lose weight while they are trying to build muscle size by merely eliminating the junk food from their diet. For example, if you eat a lot of cookies, drink a lot of beer, eat a lot of sugary fruits, and eat bread or pasta -- then by merely eliminating these food items you will begin to lose weight.

All you need to do is substitute them with healthier food choices.

Such as, whole wheat pasta, oatmeal, light beer (gotta have a beer every now and then:-) 90% lean ground beef, fish, vegetables, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes and many others.

Tony Horton, the creator of P90X, does an excellent job -- even though his jokes are corny at times -- at keeping you enthusiastic and motivated during the workout.

Some people have said that Tony is "addicting." Even on the days that they don't have to workout, some people have said they still watch the DVD. However, don't get me wrong the P90X is not. And I repeat not an EASY workout regiment.

You'll be working out six days per week and these are difficult workouts to say the least. In fact, before you purchase this system you should take their fitness test.

If you're a man, you should be able to do at least 15 push-ups, touch your toes or be within 6 inches of them, be able to do pull ups and other various exercises. If not, then you should consider getting the P90 and doing that work out for 90 days.

Or, begin a body weight exercise routine at home. Do some simple push-ups and get yourself a pull up bar. Then you can include doing pull-ups as part of this workout routine. Another way to go might be too purchase a good quality set of resistance bands and start working out with them. You'll need to pull up bar and the resistance bands once you get started on the workout.

Once you're ready (and you'll be able to determine that by taking the P 90X fitness test) then go ahead and start the P90 extreme fitness workout.

So, the question really should be WHY does P90X work?

The motivation that Tony Horton provides in the video is one of the major reasons why the P90 X program is so successful. As they claim, all you need to do is put the DVD into the player and push play.

The entire training system is really a no-brainer. If you can follow their step-by-step exercise plan and simple diet menus you will achieve results. Just like you would with any other workout or nutritional system. There is no magic behind the power 90 extreme workout program!

So, does P90X work?

Well, it's not revolutionary, it's not breakthrough, but it IS an easy to follow, simple as 1-2-3 workout and diet plan. I hope that in this article I have been able to explain to you why does P90X work.
